truth is 04:01
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger March 2008 © 2008 Ben Hunsberger The truth is the truth is a marvelous word Makes us feel good about what we've heard A warm fuzzy feeling inside The truth is the truth is The proof someone lied. The truth is a thing that we all know and love A matter of science, a word from above Some ancient fossil or etched in stone The truth is the truth is Fragile as a bone The truth is the truth is a powerful tool A fountain of strength, the follie of fools The truth is the truth is the promise of spring The truth is the truth is A dangerous thing The truth is the truth is what I say to you You see it in my eyes and in all that I do If you can't handle it, that's OK Just repeat after me And say exactly what I say The truth is the truth is a mad poet's dream Inspiring young folks, makes old folks scream The truth is the edge of a well-honed knife The truth is the truth is The meaning of life The truth is a jar you can never uncap The truth is a gift you can never unwrap The truth is a journey without any map The truth is the truth is A marvelous trap.

peeper song 03:49
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger May 2008 © 2008 Ben Hunsberger Spring came pouring into Maine this year Like Jesus on the word of God A winter's worth of snow melts away like tears And voices are raised in the bog Red buds are bursting on the maple tree Even with a nightly frost Sap begins to flow, and everybody knows Winter's long, cold grip is lost Winter's long, frozen grip is lost. Chorus: And the sun runs high The night runs cold The stars fill a heavenly dome A vee in the sky descends on the water And peepers are calling you home Still too early to fix that fence I never got around to in the fall The ground is still too wet, it hasn't dried out yet Better wait till the killdeer calls I'm going to wait for the killdeer's call That raging river wants to spill its banks It's tearing at a muddy shore Ice is flowing by, taken by the tide Mother Nature opens up her doors. Up the river there is plenty more. And the sun runs high The night runs cold The stars fill a heavenly dome A vee in the sky descends on the water And peepers are calling you home Spring came pouring into Maine this year Like Jesus on the word of God A winter's worth of snow melts away like tears And voices are raised in the bog A holy chorus is a-singing in the bog All the little peepers are a-peeping in the bog

best of us 03:34
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger March 2008 © 2008 Ben Hunsberger Nobody nobody seen Nobody nobody heard you sneakin round the back All part of a dream And we were ready we were ready for the frontal attack Building fences, solid defenses And we dared you to cross the line All part of a dream Gathering steam, we were too late to find that You got the best of us. You got the best of us. Nobody thought it could be Nobody nobody thought this train could jump the track All part of a dream We were splitting the seam, just a hair-line crack Choir singing, bells ringing Sharing our piece of the pie All part of a dream A sucker-punch scream in the dead of the night You got the best of us. You got the best of us. Nobody thought it was you Nobody nobody knew you were the thief in the yard All part of a dream And we were ready we were ready for a change of the guard Warm breezes, silent sieges Choaking in a smoke-filled room All part of a dream Starting to lean, when we realized that you You got the best of us. You got the best of us.

Words and music by Ben Hunsberger lyrics Apr 2008 © 2007 Ben Hunsberger Born on a winter's evening Born a child of truth Born in a magic moment With the promise of youth You are born Born into freedom Born into grace, born to the range Born into power Born to the chase, never to be tamed You are born And you honor this bargain And you honor this plan And you run like a child born to the wind. Born to the season Born with the sun on your face Born with a reason Born to continue the race You inspire the weary with confident grace It shines from the light of your face Born on a winter's evening Born a child of truth Born in a precious moment With the promise of youth You are born And you honor this bargain And you honor this plan And you know you are... And you honor this bargain And you honor this plan And you run like a child born to the wind. All those born to the wind.

birthday 03:49
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger © 2009 Ben Hunsberger You got new shoes, oh my my Don't they look like something on you Slip them on your feet, tie them just right Oh my, don't they look like something You got a new belt, yes you do Don't it look like something on you Specialty leather, diamonds in the buckle Oh yes, don't that look like something Say hey, it's your birthday I got a present for you Say hey, it's your birthday I got a present for you You got a new haircut, really sharp It's a marvelous look on you Just off your shoulder, catches the light Oh my, don't that look like something That's a lovely dress, yes yes Don't it look like something on you It swings when you dance, and when you move just right Oh my, don't it look like something Say hey, it's your birthday I got a present gonna make you sing Say hey, it's your birthday All you got to do is pull this string I love the way those pearls settle on your neck Don't they look like something on you They feel so nice on your silky skin Oh my, don't they look like something Say hey, it's your birthday I got a present for you Say hey, it's your birthday I got a present for you

Words and music by Ben Hunsberger August 2008 © 2008 Ben Hunsberger Maybe it is as they say Maybe it was his heart Maybe it just stopped ticking in the end Maybe he grew too old, too fast And his body fell apart One too many battles to defend Maybe it is as they say But I'm down a friend Maybe it is as they say... But I am down a friend Maybe it is as they say The strain was just too great Maybe he saw it coming for a while Maybe he know there's something wrong And found it too late Maybe he could not walk another mile Maybe it is as they say But I have my doubts Maybe it is as they say But I have got my doubts Maybe he had a checkered past That none of us ever knew Maybe he takes his secret to the grave Maybe he had a list of things That someday he would do Maybe that's not a list that should be saved Maybe it is as they say But I'm not convinced Maybe it is as they say But I am not convinced Maybe it is as they say I'm down a friend Maybe it is as they say But I am down... Maybe that list should not be saved...

not around 04:43
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger Aug 2007 © 2007 Ben Hunsberger I stopped closing the door, I don't do that no more You're not around Can't talk to you're friends, I want to see you again You're not around I try calling you're phone, there's no dial tone You're not around Keys by the door, note on the table You're not around I talk to myself, they say it's good for my health You're not around But there's not much to say, and I don't listen anyway You're not around The sky fills with rain, I don't complain You're not around Keys by the door, note on the table You're not around I feed the dog and the cat twice a day Put a smile on my face, but my heart is still gray You're not around I stopped closing the door, I don't do that no more You're not around I talk to you're friends, I want to see you again You're not around The sky fills up with rain, I don't complain You're not around Keys by the door, note on the table You're not around I make dinner for one, it leaves me a mess Leave the dishes undone, one soul in distress

Words and music by Ben Hunsberger Oct 2007 © 2007 Ben Hunsberger How many days have I been wandering? This sun's making me crazy, and I can't think. Didn't you hear that, listen, hear that? The sun's making me crazy. I want no water, want no water, want no water. I think this is the way we came... Been so many days it all looks the same. Didn't we see this tree before, yesterday? This sun's making me crazy, crazy. I want no water, want no water, want no water. If you can see, you lead the way. Nothing's clear to me, nothing's clear anymore. I gotta shut my eyes, shut my eyes. This sun's eating my brains, it's eating my brains. I want no water, want no water, want no water. Didn't you hear that, listen, hear that? This sun is eating my brains, it's eating my brains. I want no water, want no water, want no water.

way away 05:00
Words and music by Ben Hunsberger © 2009 Ben Hunsberger Make camp in the foothills No fires tonight Our enemy is upon us He's looking for a fight, for a fight Ration your provisions Guard your water with your life These are desparate decisions Write a letter to your children and your wife (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away How the hell did we get here? Things were going so well. Had a good business back in Bangor That whole world's gone to hell, gone to hell It was different when we started We had a stronger hand to play All the aces, all the trump cards Hard to figure how they traded that away... (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away I've got her picture in my pocket But I can't look at her tonight If there's a chance we get out of here I've got to hold on through the dawn's early light (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away (We are walking home) Way away (We are walking home) Way away away

about

In Ben's 7th album, he blends nature and politics, angst with humor, and a pinch of sarcasm. Skillfully crafted compositions are supported by engaging performances.

"Awesome deep poetic emotional overtones in a great genre of contemporary music."

"wow ... it's inconceivable to me how anyone can do all things, writing songs, performing, recording and producing them"

"I love this Album. Ben's blend between Jackson Browne style rock and Paul Simon and Pete Seeger's story telling style of folk music is particularly apparent on this album. The title track Want No Water is an eerily calm yet profound questioning of mortality, leaving you questioning choices. Also thought provoking is Down A Friend. Having lost close friends...this song touches both my head and heart. In the end though, my personal favorite is Peeper Song. I love it's optimistic welcoming of spring."
